Weekly Market Notes for February 3, 2005

Dear market friends

From market manager Anne Freeman:

"A tasting treat at the market this week! Ewenity Dairy is sending samples of their sheep's milk yogurt and "Ramembert" cheese so that market-goers can become more familiar with these locally produced specialties. We'll try to circulate with a tray at a couple of different times so that lots of people will get a chance to try them.

"All the farmers will be in this week, along with all our other regulars except Camros(Mojdeh and Saeed Shams) and Nujima(James Lee). Kate of Best Friend Bites will be visiting with her baskets of dog treats as well."

From Lorenz Eppinger of Greenfields:

"Once again we will have lots of fruit this week: Pineapples, Apples, Oranges, Grapefruit, Lemons, Mangos, Kiwis, Pears and more of those ever so good Papayas. We'll have lots of local greenhouse grown Spring Mix again this week. It is amongst its best at this time of year when the otherwise rather spicy Mustard Greens are still mild and crunchy. Other than our usual offering we will be bringing Celeriac, Collards, beautiful Florida field Tomatoes, crisp and shiny red Radishes, sweet Sugar Snap Peas, and Orange Bell Peppers. Romaine Lettuce is also back this week. On Special this week are Broccoli (1.75), Roma Tomatoes (1.50 per pint)and Green Bell Peppers (.75)."

The park bakers will also be selling jars of Melvin Laidlaw's excellent hemp pesto for him, both fiery and mild, at the bread shelf.

The weather forecast is for more gentle weather --

See you at the market!

P.s. Friday night supper is cancelled for the rest of the winter season. For details, see the February newsletter www.dufferinpark.ca/newsletter. But the cooks are still making lots of delicious Friday Night Supper-type food for the skaters to eat all weekend, to deal with the hunger that comes from all that fresh air and exercise......
