Children - and adults too - get to make their own personal pizza at Dufferin Grove Park's outdoor community bake oven. Roll out your own dough, add sauce and cheese, then watch the staff as they cook the pizzas in the wood-fired oven. Feel free to bring your own toppings!
Classes will make pizza in shifts, so it's a good idea to bring a snack to munch on while waiting your turn. Dufferin Grove Park is an interesting place: tour the park's community and native species gardens or visit the Cob Courtyard!
Madame (on stilts!) will grace us with her presence once again this year, and Fifi the French poodle has booked her flight to Canada, arriving just in time to guide students between performance sites. Performers have successfully toured throughout Canada and the U.S., winning strong appreciation for work in diverse and remote communities.
First up, Golgi Apparatus performs Big Foot, a clownish comedy for all ages. Wanted: one photo of Big Foot. Big reward! Three wilderness trippers stumble their way through the great outdoors, in pursuit of the legendary Big Foot. This is a new collaboration between three physical theatre/clown performers originally from Stranger Theatre (Toronto), Zuppa Circus Theatre (Halifax), and Compagnie Houppz (Paris.)
Next, The Spee Society gives us Lear’s Shadow, a fifteen-minute long King Lear as seen through the eyes of the fool. The show promises to be an eye-popping, ukulele-strumming walk through one of Shakespeare’s best-known plays. The solo show is a collaboration between performer Kiersten Tough of Zuppa Circus Theatre and John Turner of Mump and Smoot.
The remaining classes take their turn at the oven!
