June 20-24, 2012
The Cooking Fire Theatre Festival is an annual week-long celebration of theatre, food and public space held in Toronto’s Dufferin Grove Park since 2004. Delicious, affordable organic meals from the park’s wood-fired community bake ovens are served alongside an evening of pay-what-you-can outdoor theatre performed by local, national and international artists. The festival is an ideal venue for independent artist-run companies creating original, ambitious outdoor theatre. We present work that draws on a range of forms, including devised theatre, puppetry, choral singing, live music, clown, street theatre and storytelling.
What we’re looking for:
We’re particularly interested in new pieces created for the festival itself, as well as those that are adapted for this context. We like work that takes advantage of the landscape of the park in new and exciting ways, not necessarily thematically, but as the physical setting of the show. Performances at the festival range in length from 10 to 40 minutes, and while all productions should accommodate an all-ages audience, we're seeking outdoor work that is also thematically complex and geared towards adults.
Deadline for submissions: December 15, 2011
