On three Saturdays in June, The Cooking Fire Theatre Festival will host free theatre workshops for local children and youth, to create and present a performance on June 24, in an evening of theatre, good food and community celebration.
MacGregor Park Artist-in-Residence Kristen Fahrig and Number Eleven Theatre performer and teacher Jane Wells will lead workshops each Saturday afternoon. Participants will create characters, fantastic and beautiful costumes, and a short performance over three afternoons in MacGegor Park. On the evening of June 24, the performance will be shown in the park as part of the Third Annual Cooking Fire Theatre Festival, side by side with professional theatre companies from Toronto and beyond. There will be a free meal served over an open fire, and music. This is a unique opportunity for children and youth to experience creating theatre alongside two remarkable artists, and to present what they make to a large audience.
Volunteers are needed to take part in this exciting event. There is space for fifteen children to participate in making the play, and three youths are needed to help design and construct costumes. All workshops are free, and all materials are provided. The workshops will be held June 10, 17 and 24 from 2-5, and the performance will take place on June 24 at 6, with food, more theatre and music to follow.
