The Rink is open December 2, 2006 to March 18, 2007
Dufferin Rink has two skating pads. Typically one side is used for pleasure skating, and the other for shinny, but see the schedule for details.

Shinny hockey schedule
Monday – Friday before 9 p.m.:
- 9:00am - 3:15pm all ages (New: on Monday and Friday the rink may not open until 10am, for occasional extra ice maintenance – check at 416 392-0913)
- 3.15pm - ice maintenance
- 3:30pm - 5:30pm Level 2 (about 13 to 17, medium pace)
- 5:30pm - 7:00pm Level 1 (12 and under and parent or caregiver, or novice adult)
- 7.00pm ice maintenance
- 7.15pm – 8.55pm Level 3 (18 and over, fast-paced)
After 9 pm: Monday 9 pm: Seasonal permit (plus “pond hockey” on the pleasure-skating side); Tuesday 9 - 11 pm: Women’s open shinny (plus “pond hockey” on the pleasure-skating side); Wednesday 9-10 pm: Seasonal permit. 10-11pm: “beginners only” drop-in shinny (plus “pond hockey” on the pleasure-skating side); Thursday 9 pm: Seasonal permit (plus “pond hockey” on the pleasure-skating side); Friday 9 pm: Seasonal permit (plus “pond hockey” on the pleasure-skating side) Saturday
- 9:00am - 10:00a.m. 9 years old and under, plus caregiver
- 10 am – 12 noon all ages
Pleasure-skating side (9.30 - 1.30 learn-to-skate program on part of the ice)
- 12:00pm - 1:30pm Level 1 (12 and under and parent or caregiver, or novice adult)
- 1.30 pm – ice maintenance
- 1:45pm - 3:45pm all ages
- 3:45pm - 5:15pm Level 2 (about 13 to 17, medium pace)
- 5.15pm – ice maintenance
- 5:30pm - 7:00pm all ages
- 7:00pm - 8:55pm Level 3 (usually 18 and over, fast paced)
- 8.55pm – ice maintenance.
- 9.10 pm: single-occasion permit (open shinny on pleasure-skating side)
Sunday
- 10:00am - 5:00pm No shinny hockey. Pleasure skating both sides.
- 5-6.30 pm: parent/child shinny program, by registration, pleasure skating other side
- 6.30-8 p.m. local adult shinny program, by registration, pleasure-skating other side
- 8-9.30 pm. Seasonal permit, pleasure-skating other side to 9, then “pond hockey”
- 9.30-11: youth shinny program (plus “pond hockey” on the pleasure-skating side)
Hours of Operation:
Rink clubhouse: open Monday to Saturday: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. , Sundays: 9a.m. to 8.30 p.m.
Shinny hockey: same hours as the rink clubhouse except Sundays. There is a (strictly enforced) age schedule. If you ever see the wrong age group on the shinny ice, do us a favour and notify the rink staff right away.
Pleasure-skating: always freely available. After 9 p.m., skating is unsupervised. Then it's like skating on a pond: shinny hockey and pleasure-skating are sometimes happening at the same time and people use the rink on their own responsibility.
The large rink lights turn off after 11 p.m., and then the rink is locked.
Parking: the best place to park is east of the rink on Dufferin Park Avenue (at the north boundary of the park). You have to walk west a short distance along the pedestrian walkway at the north side of the rink. Or you can park at the Dufferin Mall across the street.
Zamboni Ice Maintenance Schedule
Skaters are required to leave the ice during zamboni maintenance.
Daily Zamboni Ice Maintenance 7am - 9am
EXTRA ZAMBONI ICE MAINTENANCE EVERY Monday & Friday till 10am (starting 7am).
For the following, the Hockey Pad is always scraped first.
Monday to Friday: 3:15pm, 7:00pm (changed from 6:30pm), 8:55pm
Thursday: Zamboni is parked on the basketball court at 12 noon (to make room for the Thursday Farmers' Market in the rinkhouse).
Saturday: 1:30pm, 5:15pm, 8:55pm
Sunday: 4:55pm, 8pm
Novice adult shinny hockey practice
Are you a wannabe shinny hockey player, but just starting to get the hang of it? Dufferin Rink offers an hour of protected drop-in shinny hockey time, Wednesday nights from 10 to 11 p.m. None of the Dufferin Rink hot shots are allowed on the ice during that time. No need to register, and it’s free, with a staff resource person on the ice who will pass to you and give you pointers if you want. Or you can just practice as you choose. For more information, call the park at 416 392-0913, and ask for Dan Watson.
Skate Lending
If you don't have your own skates, you can borrow a pair (we have hockey and figure skates) for 2$. If you want to try your hand at shinny hockey, you can also borrow a stick and gloves (1$ each).
Helmets are also available to lend, free of charge.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
If you want to rent skates or shinny equipment you must leave a government issued Identification card as collateral. The following pieces are acceptable:
·Birth Certificate
·Health Card
·Driver’s Licence
·Social Insurance Card
·Passport
·Status Card
·Bring your ID card (BYID)
STUDENT CARDS, TTC PASSES AND LIBRARY CARDS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE ANYMORE!
If you do not have one of these forms of identification you have two options:
1.You must leave a $50 deposit to be reimbursed upon return of the equipment
Or
2.You must sign a contract to become a skate rental member at Dufferin Rink.
In order to obtain a skate rental membership, your parents must come to the rink and complete an application. Once this is done , you will be issued a membership card to use at Dufferin Rink. You must bring this membership card with you whenever you wish to rent skates. No Exceptions.

General Information
For adults the weekly one-off shinny permits cost $79. For children and youth, there is no charge.(new rule might charge as of 2006 season!!) To book a permit, call the rink at 416/392-0913 and leave a message.
IN THE EVENT OF SNOW, IF RINK USERS HELP STAFF IN CLEARING THE ICE, THE RINK OPENS FASTER. WE HAVE LOTS OF SHOVELS, OR BRING YOURS FROM HOME.
