Community SOCCER and CRICKET times

For about seven years, recreation staff have programmed the soccer field for open (non-league) community soccer and cricket from Saturday 2pm to Sunday night, beginning in May when the grass is in. Neighbourhood people were able to set up times (at no charge) with recreation staff by calling the park clubhouse at 416 392-0913 or emailing staff@dufferinpark.ca. This may no longer be possible – watch for updates.

Queer West Soccer

Description: Pick up soccer in the West End. Anyone can come along, regardless of if you're a pro or totally new. This is totally non-competitive and just for fun! We also encourage those who don't want to play. You can be the cheering section!

4-6pm every Sunday.

Community BALL-HOCKEY times

It may no longer be possible for people to set up informal drop-in (non-league) game times with recreation staff by e-mailing staff@dufferinpark.ca or calling the park clubhouse at 416 392-0913. Watch for updates.

Description: Roller hockey on Thursdays 6:30-8:30

We encourage/prefer players to play on inline skates, but we always had a few players on foot too, which worked OK. We use a medium hard ball (probably a green Z-ball). We encourage co-ed. We may have one or two near beginners, but we wish to keep the level fairly competitive, though completely friendly. Typically players wear little to no gear, but I always encourage people to gear up a little (personally, I usually wear jock, shins, gloves, elbows, and sometimes helmet).

Description: Cooperative Games

A newish idea for this year by park friend : Sindi Sabourin, is having a few hours a week in which to play cooperative games. From her website:

"Meetups for trying out cooperative versions of active sports such as hockey, soccer, tennis and volleyball. Participants must be willing to take an experimental approach to determining what obstacles to create to make cooperative versions challenging and fun."

These time would be:
- Hockey pad: 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Sundays starting in July Alternates between cooperative ball hockey for adults and hockey tag games for kids.

Sindi asks that people register to play at the website - because the nature of the games requires specific numbers of players. Registration is still free.
