Hello Market Friends:
One more market for 2013, and a festive one it will be! We're hoping for a jolly good crowd, so that many holiday feasts will include tasty reminders of the farmers and food producers who bring us their best each week.
Here's a little news from the vendors:
Sosnickis' contribution: "Happy Holidays everyone! We'll have our Potatoes, great for mashing or roasting, sweet Carrots, huge Celeriac, crisp Cabbages, Onions, Garlic, Leeks, Beets AND field fresh Kale to fix your Holiday tables! If you need quick yummy meals we've got the Perogies in 4 flavours (including the new popular vegan) as well as our garlicky, roasted-pepper-laced, savoury Kale, drenched-tomato, long-grain rice, spicy, vegan Cabbage Rolls! And to keep the guts healthy - unpasteurized raw sauerkraut! See you all at a very Merry market! If you need to order a large quantity if Perogies or Cabbage Rolls please email this eve or early tomorrow morn at jb@sosnickiorganics.com so I can pack enough. Thanks!!" Jess, Ben & Sadie
Last chance for Urban Harvest/Earthly Paradise goodies at Dufferin for a bit; Colette will be away from the market in January-February getting ready for another great season of seeds. Stock up on body care, lovely soaps, essential oils, seeds on sale and other good stuff this week.
Chris and Krista of DeFloured keep adding more good recipes to their lineup. The veggie pot pie, with sweet potato and kale in curry, is absolutely delicious! They will have a table extra-full of treats both savoury and sweet this time. They'll also open their bakery on College Street specially for the 23rd and 24th, to be sure fans can get gluten-free baking for the holidays. If you haven't visited them at the shop, there's a nice article (and map) on blogto: http://www.blogto.com/bakery/de-floured-toronto
More eggs this time! Apologies to anyone who went home without last week. We'll fix that!
Alvaro from Plan B will be coming in with fresh-pressed apple cider again. No wine for the market yet, but an announcement this week hints that there may be wine sales coming to Ontario farmers' markets. Laura Sabourin from Feast of Fields would love to help out with that! Don't hold your breath yet...but the times they are a' changing.
It's no great surprise that the Akiwenzies will not be coming down. The lake is filling up with ice and the motor on Andrew's boat is pretty well frozen up. We're hoping that a (classic) January thaw will permit some fishing early in the new year.
There will NOT be a market on Boxing Day, but we WILL have a market on January 2nd. Please help us spread the word if you have pals who don't read the news, or who might like to visit us on their holidays!
Wishing You a Lovely, Festive Holiday and a Healthy, Happy New Year!
See you at the market!
Anne Freeman
