Weekly Market Notes for June 22, 2006

Hello Market Friends:

Today when I dropped by the park to check on some advance details, I found painters all around the gardens studying the beauty of the roses. The park is a little quieter this week than last, but still humming on these longest days of the year. Here's what's up for this week's market:

It's officially summer, and if you scream for ice cream, you'll be happy to find Kensington Market Organic Ice Cream starting this time!

Our storytellers, April and Daniel, will be back again to entertain smaller market-goers, beginning around 4:00.

Look at this great list from Greenfields:

"Fresh from our fields this week: bunched baby Beets, Sugarsnap Peas, Spinach,Collards, Green and Black Kale, Red Chard, Parsley, Romaine, Red Leaf Lettuce, Lettuce Mix, lots of Kohlrabi(purple and green), Red Mustard, we might be cutting the first of the Broccoli tomorrow morning and then of course we have lots and lots of our Strawberries this week. They will also be available by the flat. If there's any room left in the van we'll also be bringing bananas, oranges, lemons, apples, pears and a few other regular items."

Ted Thorpe also promises strawberries in larger quantities along with abundant greens, and Ben Sosnicki just might have the first carrots.

From Irene of Deer Valley Farm:

This week’s ‘hot’ offering will be venison meatballs on a bun. We have a great selection of cuts of FRESH venison available…including fresh liver. Any special requests can be made through the website: www.venison.ca or by email at: order@venison.ca

Thanks for your feedback to everyone who filled out questionnaires last week, and if you haven't had a chance yet, please look for them at vendors' tables or the info. easel along the path. Everyone who submits a questionnaire by June 29 will be entered in a draw for a gift basket of market goodies.

This year, quite a number of "our own" producers have been nominated to attend Terra Madre. Below is a special notice of an event in support of their trip.

See you at the market!

Anne
