Weekly Market Notes for November 25, 2010

Hello Market Friends:

The strings of lights add some sparkle to the tent arcade, and having a little heat on inside feels pleasant; best of all, we can fit everyone in very nicely, and all seemed happy with last week's switch to our semi-indoor setup. Come and enjoy a nice mix of cool and cozy shopping! And speaking of nice mixes, this year's especially sweet carrots and beets contrast beautifully with the smoky arugula, radicchio, mizuna and other richly flavoured greens that are still abundant.

From Jessie Sosnicki: "So yesterday the sun was beaming into my kitchen after I did animal chores and I brought in a hamper of veg to cook up. I created an inspirational blog at www.sosnickiorganicproduce.blogspot.com with pics from my morning and a link to the first of many winter recipes using storage crops. This one is from Jamie Oliver: 'Roast Carrot and Avocado Salad with Orange and Lemon Dressing'. Oh, it's yummy! The second blog down is all about sauerkraut and perogies if anyone needs a refresher on how we produce them! ;). Ben will be at Dufferin with all our foods and storage crops as usual!"

Angelos (Country Meadows) is newly back from harvesting olives in Greece, and will be coming. Here's a note from his wife, Linda: "This market is exactly one month til Christmas so I thought it is a good time to take orders for our Heritage Turkeys. Angelos will have an order list if anyone wants a FRESH CERTIFIED ORGANIC HERITAGE TURKEY for Christmas."

Now that the holidays are a frequent topic, people have begun to ask if there will be a Dufferin Grove Winter Craft Fair, and the answer is Yes! It will be on December 19th; more details to follow as the date approaches.
