Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
The abundance of this year's harvest is well worth celebrating! We are going to pile it on for you this week, with another RINK full of wonderful food. Check out the carpenters' work in the background, preparing for that other season when there will be hockey players on the rink instead of farmers.
We'll have a big team for our harvest celebration market. Here's some news from the vendors:
Feast of Fields will be bringing lots of apples including some late season varieties that don't usually get to the market like russets. They will also have pears and grapes, maybe the last of the season.
Sosnickis' report: "We have lots of beautiful fall veg for your Thanksgiving feasts! Lots of Carrots, Celery, Potatoes, Green Beans, Peppers Galore! Celeriac, Tomatoes (yes, bringing some Heirlooms and a few field types), Onions, Leeks, Beets, Garlic, Kale, Swiss Chard, Cabbages, Spinach and I'm sure I'm forgetting a couple crops! Beautiful weather - come out and enjoy the bounty!" Jess & Ben
"Kind Organics will have beautiful radishes this week and a special deal on our gourmet mixed Kale blend, Arugula and Sunflower sprouts. This will also be our last week for Kale chips for a while. Hopefully they'll be back in November (weather dependent)." Sandra Dombi
Knuckle Down news: "This week I will have pie pumpkins! Also: squash, onions, carrots, an assortment of greens, watermelon radishes and herbs for your Thanksgiving feast." Jenny
This will be the last week of the season for Jacob Saphra's Brixton Grill, which has kept the vegan barbeque scene happily hopping at the market all summer long. Be sure to tell Jacob we're looking forward to seeing him back at Dufferin next spring!
Seth from Forbes Wild Foods will be bringing lovely fall mushrooms. Foraging is always full of surprises; he tells me the ones he's likeliest to have this week are Golden Chanterelles and Maitake (also known as Hen of the Woods). There's a very good chance of some Lobster Mushrooms making it to market, too.
Blythe and Adam from Growing Spaces have been pressing apple cider, and they'll have some to enjoy hot or cold while you shop, the perfect treat for a glorious fall afternoon.
Thank you ALL for your support of the market! Have a terrific long weekend.
Anne
