You'll find the market on the RINK from now until mid-November, then mainly indoors. We count on your support all year long, please help to spread the word. You can follow Dufferin Grove Farmers Market on facebook, too!
Hello Market Friends:
For a little longer, we've got both warm and cool-season crops side by side, meaning a wealth of flavours and colours. There is lots to report from our hard-working producers:
"Knuckle Down Farm will be at Market without me this week, but Kate and Lea will have lots of beautiful produce for you. If you are feeling a little heavy after Thanksgiving we have everything you need to make perfect salads! Spicy Salad Mix, Spinach, Savoy Cabbage, Carrots, Beets, Peppers and Head Lettuce too! We will also be bringing a good mix of Winter Squash and pumpkins." Jenny
Sosnickis' contribution: "Our fall harvest we've been working hard on all year is finally hitting Dufferin. Wish it could have been for Thanksgiving but the weather never follows a calendar :)
We have gorgeous Cauliflower. Both white and Romanesca. We've got Brussel Sprouts! Just a trickle tomorrow as I want more frost to make them super sweet before we begin a mass harvest. Broccoli, Broccoli, Broccoli!! Big Celeriac bulbs. Flavourful Celery. Huge Cooking Onions. Red, White and French Fingerling Potatoes, Rainbow Carrots, the sweetest Orange Carrots, Beets- both red and golden with fresh tops still, our three kinds of Kale. Red and Green Cabbage. Perhaps the savoy will be ready too. We had a killing frost and picked the peppers so our last Peppers coming. Still going and going - our Heirloom Tomatoes! ! With the sun and since they are rooted way down in that awesome soil their flavor is still absolutely awesome. I think Me and my big round pregnant belly and little blossom Sadie will come for a visit to market before I settle in for the winter to wrangle two kidlets ;)" Jess, Ben & Sadie
Ted Thorpe has lots of Jamaican pumpkins, a huge picking of spinach, broccoli, lots of varieties of greens and more.
Mark us on your calendar EVERY Thursday if you like to eat, and mark Ted Thorpe's Organic Bash on your calendar this Sunday, October 19th! From 10 am on, there will be loads of great music and food on the farm, just a short drive away near Millgrove. Tickets are $20, and you can get all the info you need at the market or on facebook.
Yes, all you desperate people, Micha Kennedy will be back this time to make more fries!
Urban Harvest will return in two weeks.
Sorry to say, no Akiwenzies again due to heavy winds. If you want to follow the advice fisherfolk need, take a look at this note from Natasha:
"This is the marine forecast for southern Georgian Bay. Anything with East in it as the direction of wind is really not good. Anything from the North is interesting/challenging. Anything from 15 knots and up for wind speed we definitely stay on shore. West is the most favourable but again, depends on the strength of wind. When it says winds light, time to hurry up and fish."

John/Ionel of Bees Universe is enjoying introducing us to a Romanian grilled specialty, 'miche', made from a mixture of his farm-raised turkey and pork along with a bit of grass-fed beef. I saw a lot of people heading back for seconds after trying one.
Forbes Wild Foods will have fresh wild Porcini mushrooms and heartnuts."
Damon Dewsbury of Culture City will be attending for the next month, with varieties of tempeh and fermented condiments.
This is the last week of the season for Tapioca Gourmet, so they've offered to bring along some musician friends to entertain us. Expect a spirited market! I plan to make a beeline for one more of their incredible pumpkin butter and brie pancake combos, to tide me over til spring.
Last call for Avalon apples and cider, too, so many people want organic apples that the orchard is picked bare!
Ming of Ying Ying Soy is heading to China to visit his father. Stop by and say hello to his son, Wayne, who will be looking after the table.
Cheese, glorious cheese! Best Baa has great options to use in recipes, including creme fraiche and ricotta, as well as many kinds for nibbling. I think we'll set up our VQA wine tent next door, as you might want to sample these items side by side. Tawse Wines will be featured this time.
See you at the market!
