Hello Market Friends:
We had so much fun last Hallowe'en that some of the vendors will be getting a head start this year. We'd love to see your costumes too! To kids (of all ages) who come dressed up: stop by the Bees Universe table and we'll treat you to a honey stick.
As I write this I'm wondering if the news will need to be updated by market time....We are excited about the imminent arrival of more 'Crop of 2014' market babies! For the moment, Jenny Cook and Jessie Sosnicki are still busy making sure we'll have good things to eat from their farms:
Knuckle Down News: "It looks like baby is going to let me help out with the harvest for at least one more week so there will be lots of beautiful fall produce heading to market on Thursday. Mixed bunches of colourful beets, Spicy salad mix, winter squash, savoy cabbage, spinach and maybe the last of the sweet peppers in abundance. There will also be some lovely radicchio and maybe even a little bit of head lettuce if you come early!" Jenny
Excerpts from a note from Jessie: “So, baby is due anytime and the whole 'hurry up and wait' stage has begun....All deliveries this week are early with Ben flying to Toronto and back home. Ben will come with the truck at his usual early time at 12:30pm or so and unload a tent, couple tables and our veg. Then he's going to leave and come home. Toshimi and Nicole will come earlier, set up and sell everything....”
Very best wishes to these families!
More vendor news:
From Krista Tobias of de Floured: "We have both chicken and veggie pot pies this week. Also, pumpkin pies are still available."
From the Akiwenzies: "Thanks to crazy winds and even thunderstorms yesterday and today, we won’t be down this week."
Urban Harvest/Earthly Paradise is back, with lovely treats for you and your plants.
Our VQA Wine tent will return next week.
A Special Announcement from the Dufferin Grove Gardeners and Wildlife Gardening:

@ The Dufferin Grove Organic Farmers' Market
FREE
Plant gardens that are beautiful and help threatened species of bees, butterflies, bats and more. Learn which native plants are best for providing pollen, nectar, larval food, and habitat. We will also be discussing techniques to use to encourage pollinators in urban and rural environments. We will bring some examples of great native pollinator plants. Honey cakes, and warm beverages will be on hand for those in attendance. Dress for the weather!
Crystal Bradford and Liam Kijewski
We'll have a superb selection of vegetables, pastured chicken from Field Sparrow Farms, BBQ options from Beretta, tempeh and tofu, both wild and cultivated mushrooms, hot drinks from Earth and City, ChocoSol and Spade & Spoon, and the list goes on....
See you at the market!
