Hello Market Friends:
Just think, we are turning towards longer days! Hope you got to see the magical solstice eclipse of the moon, or to enjoy a long winter's nap if you missed it.
Our vendors have been busy getting ready for this week's festive market; we'll have plenty to fill your table and to share with others:
Sosnickis' contribution: "Ben will be coming with lots of our own food! Sweet potatoes, onions, carrots, beets, cabbages, potatoes along with our frozen Green Beans, Sweet Corn, all Perogies, Sauerkraut and Beef and Vegan Cabbage Rolls! Have a great holiday everyone!" Jessie & Ben
"Growing Spaces will have Fresh Apple Butter this week. Unlike most jams and jellies this spread has NO added sugar!! Try it on a nice thick slice of fresh bread or mix with white wine and dijon mustard for a delicious glaze for pork or chicken. We also will have Sugarplums for another week or two, which make a lovely hostess gift for the holiday season. Made with the traditional Victorian recipe, these goodies will be a hit with family and friends. Happy Holidays!!" Blythe
Alli Harris will be bringing some of his very special Bajan Rum Cake, rich with organic fruits and delicious spices.
DeFloured's Krista and Chris are making many gluten-free treats, including tarts, macaroons, mini cheese cakes, fancy layer cakes, pies (all these in many varieties) as well as Christmas rum cakes.
Beretta December Specials (Save approx $3-$4 / lb)
- Prime Rib Roasts
- Beef Ribs
- Baby Back Pork Ribs
- Lamb Chops
- Prime Rib Roast
- 5 lb Chicken Legs / Drumsticks
Please note: Dec. 23 will be Beretta's last market for 2010. We will be back on Jan. 6, 2011. Wishing you all a very Happy Holiday! Sandy
Some absences and seasonal changes:
Greenfields, Bruno (Fun Guy Farms) and Forbes Wild Foods will be absent this time, and it's very unlikely that Andrew Akiwenzie will have fish to bring. Tony and Irene of Deer Valley had planned to come, but are without a vehicle due to an accident. Note that this will be Alli's Bakery's last trip to market 'til February, and Plan B's last until spring.
The selection and quality of local storage crops is excellent this year, and we believe in 'grower-priority' and 'local organic first' as key principles of the market, but as we head deeper into winter and there's call for some fruits and vegetables our own market farms can't supply, Ted Thorpe and Ben Sosnicki will help us out by adding extra produce to what they've grown themselves.
The December 30 market is going to be a smaller one, all in the rinkhouse, as some vendors take a well-deserved rest, but Ted, Ben and others will make sure you've got what you need.
All the Best to You and Yours, and Thank You for Your Support.
See you at the market!
Anne Freeman
