Thanks to all the hardy souls who braved last week's weather to come to market. This week, hauling home your delicious provisions should be much more pleasant. It will be a full house, except for Maria of OhSoy, who should be back next time.
Here's the news from the vendors:
From Greenfields:
Well, let's get right into it. LOCAL produce available this week includes: Salad Mix, Beets, Parsnips, Carrots, Shiitake Mushrooms, Rutabaga, Squash (Butternut, Kabocha, Buttercup) and Watercress. An excellent variety of quality Greens (Romaine, Red leaf, Spinach, Kale, etc.) as well as a good selection of fruit, See Ya. Mark.
From Irene of Deer Valley Farm:
You’ve heard the expression…”when life throws you lemons...make lemonade” well... this week the cabbage leaves were overcooked…so we made "lazy cabbage"(casserole).
This week (only)... unless of course you really luv’em a lot! Come to the zamboni garage and take them home.
Colette will be at the market with all of the Earthly Paradise line but won't be bringing seeds again until March 16th (after Canada Blooms).
Send her an email with a special order if you want some before then or drop by booth #1410 at Blooms March 5-12.
If you're suffering from any late-winter complaints, stop for a chat with Ionel(John) Alecu, our market beekeeper. With his knowledge of the remarkable habits and creations of the bees, he can take you far beyond the basic honey-and-lemon.
And from Jutta:
The CUPE strike tomorrow will not interfere with the farmers' market -- the building will be open as usual, and at least parts of the rink will be skateable. Hopefully the zamboni drivers will be back at work on Friday. Friday Night Supper this week, besides offering dishes cooked with farmers' market food, will celebrate the opening of Laura Berman's photography exhibit, "Seasons of Dufferin Grove." http://www.dufferinpark.ca/arts/arts.html
Laura has wonderful farmers' market photos in this show, probably with some familiar faces in them.
See you at the market!
