Hello Market Friends:
Sometimes the simplest things are the most amazing.
The taste of the first new potato of 2015.
Fresh salad mix right out of the bag.
A piece of Georgian Bay fish.
A handful of raspberries.
SO GOOD.
You can taste the care and knowledge that goes into the best organic food. Whether you are in the mood for unadorned meals or elaborate cooking, we have THE most delicious ingredients.
Sosnickis' contribution: "Ben's in the field constantly day after day now with the men getting all our fall crops in! Finally feeling more caught up.
For the market more of our fresh dug New Potatoes, Peas, Patty Pan Zucs, Squash Blossoms, Swiss Chard and Kale! Still our big Lettuces too! Our cucumbers, tomatoes and onions are gearing up so by next week some of those crops should start appearing on our tables! " Jess, Ben, Sadie & Nate
Damon Dewsbury of Culture City has a wealth of knowledge about fermented foods. One of his newest products is dosa batter, which you can keep in the fridge for a few days and then use to make tangy and tender South Indian style pancakes/wraps-- without the advance planning required to prepare the fermented batter. At our house this week, we stuffed dosa with a market curry made using new potatoes, yellow summer squash, sweet summer onions, fresh coriander, shelled peas and spices. I can't wait to make it again! Our filling was based--loosely--on this recipe: http://www.vegrecipesofindia.com/masala-dosa-recipe-how-to-make-masala-dosa-recipe/
Mike Fohr will be offering knife sharpening up top by the doors into the rinkhouse, and not far away, Las Reinas will be back for a second visit with their colourful gluten-free, vegan arepas.
There will be organic cherries, strawberries and raspberries and (oh yeah!) black currants from Feast of Fields.
Cookout? Sure! Condiments? We've got 'em! Pick up some Prince Edward County Hot Sauce and an assortment of Spade & Spoon's savoury preserves. Don't miss Blythe's Zucchini Horseradish Relish!
PLEASE PITCH IN: Last week there was a lot of litter blowing around the park at the end of market, and the compost, waste and recycling bins were a mess. The staff looking after the bread and snacks table and washing the dishes could hardly keep up, and they had an awful lot of tidyup to do. They're going to put more bins out this time; please do your part to be sure compostables and recyclables land in the right place, and minimize garbage. Bringing your own bags and containers and returning clean ones for re-use helps too.
Thank you for being our customers! As a special treat, The Double Cuts Western Swing Band will be performing this week!
See you at the market!
