Weekly Market Notes for May 19, 2011

Hello Market Friends:

More spring bounty on the vendors' tables this week, and the park is lovely. Day by day, our tree canopy is filling in, making a big green umbrella for summer days ahead! Here's some vendor news:

Fun Guy Farms returns with fresh oyster and shiitake mushrooms from the farm near Stouffville.

Yes, we have EGGS! Angelos (Country Meadows) has been bringing more of his hens' fresh, certified organic, graded eggs, as well as turkey eggs on occasion, and Bees Universe has fresh duck eggs most weeks.

We'll have wild leeks from Forbes Wild Foods, and the promise of more wildly delicious things in coming weeks!

SAVE ON THESE SPECIALS FROM BERETTA:

  • Sweet Chili Wings - $9.50 / box
  • Natural Beef Back Ribs - $15.00 / 3 lb pkg.

Greenfields news: "Adrian will be bringing a good amount of Asparagus, Rhubarb and bunches of Salsifey. The green Salsifey tops are a great way to get healthy but not bitter tasting "Endive" greens this time of year. They are great raw and cooked just like spinach, definitely worth a try. The last of the storage beets will make it to market this week as well. Spinach and Peas are up in the field, kohlrabi, kale, chard, cabbages, collards and lettuces have all been planted out, now only the rain will have to stop. I'll be back in person at market next week!" Lorenz

Sosnickis update: "Hey all! I've created a couple picture blogs during the last few rainy days to keep folks up to date with our farm. Log onto: www.sosnickiorganicproduce.blogspot.com to see what we've been up to! The way things are looking is a return to Dufferin come June when we have more variety to offer. We are literally knee-deep in The Great Ostergruss radish mass harvest (check out the blog- you'll understand!!) and will have them as well for Dufferin upon our return.... Try to stay dry....will be a nice weekend." Jess & Ben

See you at the market!
