Hello Market Friends:
Last week I asked for some feedback on our market, and received a collection of really wonderful letters. Good for our scrapbook, and potentially very helpful as we work with other market folks on promoting a shared vision of a city of thriving and varied markets. Thank you all!
Not much news from the vendors this week; many are probably finishing digging out in preparation for the trip in. I did get to talk with Natasha Akiwenzie, who had just been smoking fish for us. No fresh at the moment...you can imagine how wild the lake is at this point when the season is starting to change. Big winds blew the ice out of the bay, but didn't bring much snow to the Bruce, and the Akiwenzie boys are wishing they had more banks for tobogganing, so they might need to come to Toronto.
Deer Valley Farm will have fresh venison available at the market this week. For future orders, our email address has changed to: dvf@venison.ca
A quick tally of Greenfields own produce currently available: Rutabagas, Sunchokes, Parsnips, Celeriac, and Shallots. Additional items--as many from close to home as can be found--will round out the selection.
For next week Anna Bekerman (translator, baker and park cook extraordinaire) will be writing the news.
If you're planning to shop and skate, don't forget to check the rink conditions first (416-392-0913), as the fine March sun is doing its best to melt the ice these afternoons.
See you at the market!
Anne
