Weekly Market Notes for March 8, 2007

Hello Market Friends:

I really wish that we'd had a camera on hand to record the looks on people's faces as they blew in the doors last week, coated in a layer of icy snow. There was quite a range of expressions: shock, determination, triumph and glee. It was our smallest market in years, with just ten vendors able to make it, and we were both grateful to them for coming and relieved that the others weren't on the roads. Thank you to those of you who either had such empty fridges or such great loyalty to the market habit that you couldn't miss it!

From Scott of Beretta Farms:

Take the madness out of March with some Beretta Organic Beef:
Sirloin Tip Roast are 8.29/lb.
Extra Lean Ground Beef is $7.00/ lb.
Nitrite Free Hot Dogs are $5.50 for a pack of 6.

Come by the Beretta booth to try the Nitrite Free Hot Dogs I'll be sampling.

From the Sosnickis:

Hey all! Couldn't risk the weather last week, so Ben missed his first market in a very long time! Very sorry, but Ben will be there tomorrow with potatoes, cabbage, perogies, and STILL a bit of sweet corn!! We are making the most of this cold weather, no bother to complain as we can't change a thing, SOO we've managed to heat an insulated room in the barn and go ahead with all seeding as scheduled!! Since our peppers and other crops take a while to germinate and they just need heat and moisture for now, we will not be firing the greenhouses until next week saving some fuel costs! Full steam ahead seeding like mad!!

Sincerely, Jessie & Ben.

Mark from Greenfields is in Alberta enjoying a well-earned holiday this week; you'll find Monika looking after things in their corner. Maria of Oh Soy will be away; otherwise it should be a full house again.

See you at the market!

Anne

P.S. A special note from longtime market friend Kera:

Can you foster my three cats? I am doing an internship at Greenfields Farm this summer.

I love my little sweeties, but must find a new home for them (foster or permanent) since they won’t be able to live on the farm with me. I am looking for a LOVING HOME from May to mid-December.

Food, litter, etc. will be provided. Please contact me asap if you think that you could provide a good home to either one, two or three of these loving cats. All have been spayed/neutered and are indoor. Contact Kera (You probably know me from Ted Thorpe's farm): kpesall@hotmail.com or 416-536-5203
